V-12 reeds are cut from reed tubes of the same diameter as those used for alto saxophone reeds. Because of this, V-12s are thicker at both ends than traditional reeds. They vibrate over a longer range and provide a rich, deep sound. The thicker tip gives body to the attack and also increases the longevity of the reed.
