With 4 independent synths in one machine the Nord Wave 2 allows you to layer classic waveforms and samples. Two OLED displays dedicated to Programs and the Oscillator Section provide an excellent overview when it comes to shaping your sounds. The wide range of dedicated performance features and real-time editable effects make the Nord Wave 2 the most versatile Nord synthesizer ever built.

Layer Section

The Wave 2 offers a Layer section with 4 knobs for easy control of the volume or panning of all 4 layers simultaneously.The Layer section also provides other handy features to allow quick editing, working on selected Layers simultaneously: pan control, soloing and multiple editing. The new Group function allows you to select 2, 3 or 4 Layers and process their filter, envelope, arpeggiator, LFO and effect parameters simultaneously, which is perfect for working with complex multi-layered sounds that are then edited as a single sound. On the other hand three keyboard split points are available which offers four playing areas with fade possibilities between these areas

Oscillator section

The oscillator section of each of the 4 layers offers 4 modes: analog modeling, wavetable, FM, and sample playback. Their access is simplified with the new category mode. The oscillator parameters include additional control over Shape, Sync or Detune. The oscillator section also features a Unison effect with multiple oscillators the Superwaves that simultaneously generate hundreds of waveforms for extremely thick and fat sounds.

Analog: a wide sonic palette that ranges from classic analog waveforms to signals with rich harmonic additions.Sample: a wide selection of very high quality samples from the Nord Sample Library 3.0 including violins, brass, guitars, vocals, chromatic percussion, as well as exclusive licensed sounds from Mellotron and Chamberlin. All of these sounds are easily replaceable using the Nord Sound Manager software.Wavetable: a large number of wavetables covering a wide range of tonal characteristics.FM: includes 2, 3 and 4 operator configurations with harmonic and inharmonic variations.

Add your own samples has never been easier with the all-new Nord Sample Editor 3 for Mac and PC user interface that allows you to split samples on the keyboard, work on loop points, and easily transfer them to Nord Wave 2.

Filters, Amps, and LFOs

The filter section has 6 kinds of filters including an impressive ladder filter emulation from the legendary Mini. It also has a full ADSR type envelope.There is also per layer: a dedicated LFO with waveform selection, vibrato, and an AD/AR type modulation envelope with velocity control and inversion mode. The LFO has several "morphable" parameters and its frequency can be synchronized to the main clock. The Amp section features a full ADSR type envelope including a brand new Transient Attack mode to add even more punch to your sounds.

Morphing and impulse morph

The Nord Wave 2 offers an extensive range of "morphable" parameters including LFO amount, oscillator control, filter and effects that can be controlled from multiple sources. Velocity, Aftertouch, Modulation Wheel and Foot Switch. All these morphing sources can be quickly assigned to control multiple parameters and you also have the powerful Impulse Morph button that allows you to instantly change any parameters of your sounds.

Polyphonic Arpeggiator and Gate

The Nord Wave 2 is a true rhythmic powerhouse with both a classic arpeggiator and a polyphonic mode with editable patterns featuring different inversions for very interesting harmonic variations.

The new Gate mode chops up your sound with a rhythmic pattern and has an adjustable depth. Pattern mode offers a wide selection of rhythmic patterns as well as easy editing to customize your patterns.

Effects section

An effects section is available for each Layer and each module offers real-time editable stereo effects (Tremolo, Pan, Ring Modulator, Chorus, Ensemble and Vibe as well as an EQ with saturation. All effects are controllable using the footswitch (or one of the morph sources) and can also be synchronized to the main clock for rhythmic effects.

There is also an advanced stereo delay with Ping Pong mode, analog mode and Tap Tempo. Creative feedback options to add Ensemble, Chorus, Vibe as well as HP / LP and BP filters into the feedback loop are also available.

A dedicated reverb per layer with 5 different reverb sizes ( Booth, Room, Stage, Hall and a new Cathedral), Dark and Bright modes and a new Chrorale effect completes this already comprehensive picture for even richer modulation.
